With her new weapon EZONE Xi 98 and POLYTOUR SPIN string, Zheng defeated 3 seeded players en route, #8 Monica Niculescu in the second round, #3 Svetlana Kuznetsova in the semifinals and #4 Flavia Pennetta in the final.
In the final, Zheng lost the first set 2-6, however, she never gave up any points. She ran around the court and hit the powerful forehand. After winning the second set 6-3 and 2-0 lead in the final set, Pennetta announced her retirement of the match.
In the women’s doubles final, 2011 French Open champions Andrea Hlavackova (RQiS2T, PTGP125) and Lucie Hradecka won the title.
YONEX’s new contract player and young star Bernard Tomic (VCORE 98D) reached the semifinals of the Brisbane International. After defeating Denis Istomin, 6-3 7-6(4) in the quarterfinals, Tomic advanced to his first semifinals at the ATP event in his career, he lost to the top seed Andy Murray, 3-6 2-6 though.
Also, Tomic reached his career high world No. 37 ranking this week.
