Pierre-Hugues Herbert (VCORE Tour G) is into his first US Open semifinal with partner Nicolas Mahut, upsetting No. 3 seeds Jean-Julien Rojer and Horia Tecau. The duo overtook their higher-seeded rivals in straight sets, clocking up 9 aces and 41 winners en route. The opening set proved tight, running into a tense tiebreaker, but the French pair managed to take the second by a more comfortable margin with a final score of 7-6(5), 6-4.
Martina Hingis (EZONE DR 100, POLYTOUR PRO 125, SHT-PROL) and Sania Mirza continue to pave their path to victory at this year’s US Open, advancing to the women’s doubles semifinal. Despite shouldering a perilous 0-5 deficit, the duo powered back to take the match, as well as taking Martina closer to another US Open final. The match concluded with a 7-6(5) 6-1 score line.
Martina and Sania will face Sara Errani and Flavia Pennetta in the semifinal on day 10. On that same day CoCo Vandeweghe (EZONE DR 98) will also be vying for a place in the women’s doubles semifinal with partner Anna-Lena Groenefeld against Caroline Garcia and Katarina Srebotnik while Stan Wawrinka (VCORE Tour G, SHT-PRO) eyes a place in the men’s singles semifinal in a meetup with South Africa’s Kevin Anderson.
