Roland Garros 2015: YONEX Youngsters into Round 2

Day 2 of Roland Garros saw YONEX’s rank of youngsters advance at the prestigious clay court tournament.

In men’s singles Borna Coric (VCORE Tour F 97, POLYTOUR SPIN) secured a first-round victory, making for an excellent start to his Roland Garros debut. Against Sam Querrey, Borna’s senior by nine years, the 18-year-old Croat pulled off a skillful victory. World No. 46 Borna exhibited a cleaner game than the experienced Querrey, with only 30 unforced errors to his opponent’s 57, and sealed the match at 7-6(8), 6-3, 0-6, 6-3. 20-year-old Australian powerhouse Nick Kyrgios (EZONE Ai 98, POLYTOUR PRO 120) is also leading the way for youngsters at the tournament, grabbing a straight-set victory over Denis Istomin. The world No. 30 saved nine break points, landing 32 winners and seven aces to earn a 6-3, 6-4, 6-3 victory in just under 100 minutes. On the women’s side, rising star Daria Gavrilova (EZONE Ai 100POLYTOUR PRO 125) secured a straight-set win over Johanna Larsson. Daria’s winners scored doubled that of her opponent, the match concluding at 6-1, 7-6(3).

The more veteran ranks of Team YONEX also secured spots in the second round, with Argentina Open finalist Juan Monaco (VCORE Si 98) coming out victorious in a tight outing with fellow countryman Federico Delbonis at 6-7(4), 6-2, 6-1, 6-7(6), 6-2.
