Roland Garros 2015: Borna Coric Powers into Round 3

Team YONEX players continue to advance at the biggest clay tournament of the year, with young male players particularly impressing in day 5.

One of the day’s biggest upsets came by way of Croatian rising star Borna Coric (VCORE Tour F 97, POLYTOUR SPIN) against No. 18 seed and clay specialist Tommy Robredo. In a marathon match that lasted just under four hours, Coric—currently at a career-high ranking of World No. 46—traded four games at the outset, edging out a win in set 1. After dropping the second set Borna struck back, winning six games in a row to take the third. Robredo dragged the match into a decider, where Borna grabbed three consecutive games from 3-4 to seal the match at 7-5, 3-6, 6-2, 4-6, 6-4. This marks the first time Borna has ever advanced to the third round of a Grand Slam.

“It was a tough match, but I didn’t give up, and fought until the end,” commented the 18-year-old after the fact. “I’m always really thankful for Yonex’s constant support,” he continued.

In men’s doubles, Pierre-Hugues Herbert (VCORE Tour G, YONEX String) and Nicolas Mahut also advanced to round 3, edging a win over Andrey Golubev and Denis Istomin. The two prevailed in a tight decider that ran into a tiebreaker, advancing to round 3 with a 6-4, 6-7(3), 7-6(2) scoreline.

In women’s doubles, Zheng Jie (EZONE Ai 98POLYTOUR SPIN) and Chan Yung-Jan excelled against opponents Gabriela Dabrowski and Alicja Rosolska, without committing a single double fault or unforced error, grabbing a 6-4, 6-1 straight-set victory. Martina Hingis (EZONE Ai 100, POLYTOUR PRO 125, SHT-PROL) and Leander Paes commenced their mixed doubles campaign, securing a swift 6-2, 6-3 victory over Alla Kudrayavtseva and Juan Sebastian Cabal.

Yonex Bags at Roland Garros

Ana Ivanovic (EZONE Ai 98) and Angelique Kerber (VCORE Si 100) are stepping out onto Roland Garros’ red clay courts sporting YONEX’s new white Pro Series tournament and racquet bags. Designed with a smooth shiny gloss and a chic silver accent, these new sleek white bags bring an air of elegance to the court. Borna and other team Yonex players are also sporting the original Pro Series racquet bags, which feature YONEX's Thermo Guard inner lining to protect racquets from heat—perfect for when the court starts to heat up.
