There have been several surprising wins in this year’s Wimbledon, but Number 22 seed Juan Monaco (VCORE Xi 98) steadily advanced to the men’s singles third round. He faced Rajeev Ram of United States on the day three of the tournament, and defeated the opponent 5-7, 6-2, 6-4, 6-2.
After losing the first set, Juan overwhelmed the American player to tie the score. He kept his service game solid, winning 84% of his serve points and secured the second set with two breaks. Juan got a boost from this set recording 53 winners and 7 service aces after capturing another two sets in a row.
Aiming to break into the fourth round for the first time at Wimbledon, Juan meets Kenny De Schepper of France for the next match.
The doubles competition has commenced as well, and Maria Kirilenko (EZONE Xi 98, PTGP125) entered the ladies’ doubles with Daniela Hantuchova of Slovakia as the 14th seeded pair. They won the opener against Argentina’s duo Maria Irigoyen and Paula Ormaechea in straight sets [6-1, 6-4].
“I hope I can stay healthy and give each match 100% during Wimbledon. Last year I was in the quarterfinal of Wimbledon and won an Olympic medal on grass courts. With the British weather, there are typically a lot of rain delays here, but I have been playing on the tour for so long under varying situations, I’m ready for competing in any condition,” said Kirelenko.
