The Swiss player has been winning across the globe since the season began, and there was nothing stopping her in Miami either. This was Martina’s second tournament with partner Sania Mirza after Indian Wells, and the two have seen remarkable success, seizing nothing but straight-set victories since pairing up. Their final match placed them against Ekaterina Makarova and Elena Vesnina, a repeat of their Indian Wells final. The No. 1 seeds endured an oppressive 5-2 lead, only to storm back, grabbing eight games in a row, holding off a set point en route. The second set saw the pair dominate, closing the match at a 7-5, 6-1 scoreline in a brisk 66 minutes. This victory earns Martina her 43rd doubles title, matching her 43 singles career titles. The pair will compete as the No. 1 seeds at the Family Circle cup, which began this week.
Team VCORE also had a good run at the tournament, with Juan Monaco (VCORE Si 98) reaching the quarterfinals, upsetting three seeded opponents en route. Sabine Lisicki (VCORE Tour 97, POLYTOUR SPIN) also placed as a quarterfinalist.
Martina is dominating on the court backed up by award-winning YONEX equipment. Her POLYTOUR PRO 125 string received StringForum.net’s 2014 “Poly of the Year” award, where it was highly praised for its superior control and feel. It was also selected as “String of the Year” in the category of comfort on both English and German editions of the website. Competing with this award-winning gear, the former world No. 1 has earned titles at this year’s Australian Open (mixed doubles) and Brisbane International, along with her recent titles at Miami and Indian Wells.
