Sabine Lisicki (VCORE Tour 97, PTGSPN) took home a huge victory against world No.1 player Serena Williams in the 4th round of Wimbledon 2013.
Performing in top condition, Sabine fought through the fierce match, maintaining her stamina to overcome the five-time Wimbledon champion. Serena had 16 break chances throughout the match, but Sabine’s persistent play allowed her to hold her service game. Sabine hit 35 winners and 10 service aces against her strong rival to punch her ticket to the quarterfinals with a 6-2, 1-6, 6-4 victory.
Overwhelmed by her big win, Sabine later posted on her Facebook page, “It was a fantastic match against a great champion. To be able to come out on top is great! Thank you so much for your support everyone!”
This marks the fourth time Sabine has reached the quarterfinals at Wimbledon, having made it all the way to the semifinals in 2011. Sabine has had great victories against the past three reigning Roland Garros champions at Wimbledon. In 2009 she defeated Svetlana Kuznetsova in the third round, in 2011 Li Na in the second round, and in 2012 Maria Sharapova in the fourth round.
Striving for further progress at her favorite tournament, the No. 23 seed faces Kaia Kanepi of Estonia. Sabine appreciates your support so keep up with her progress at Wimbledon 2013!
