Kerber Becomes Final at Premiere 5 Tournament in Doha

One of the WTA Premier 5 tournaments, Qatar Total Open 2014 took place in Doha last week. Germany’s 26-year-old Angelique Kerber (VCORE Xi 100) made it to the second final this season, following the Apia International Sydney last month.

Angelique maintained her strong performance to reach the final with straight-set wins at all matches en route. Particularly solid in the quarterfinals, she played to an outstanding victory against Petra Cetkovska, who defeated the 2014 Australian Open champion Na Li in the third round. Capitalizing on 7 of 11 break chances, Angelique overpowered her opponent with a 6-1, 6-0 victory.

Angelique’s WTA ranking elevated up to 8th from 9th after competing in the final in Doha. She is going to play at the Dubai Duty Free Tennis Championships as the No. 6 seed this week.

In the ATP Challenger Tour, Pierre-Hugues Herbert (VCORE Tour G) of France captured both singles and doubles titles at the Open BNP Paribas Banque De Bretagne Quimper.  Meanwhile 16-year-old Spaniard Jaume Antoni Munar Clar, who has been using YONEX EZONE Ai 100 racquet, displayed an impressive performance at the Grade 1 of ITF Junior tournament in Morocco to win the double crowns.
