Hingis Continues To Dominate, Winning at Dongfeng Motor Wuhan Open

Martina Hingis (EZONE Ai 100, POLYTOUR PRO 125, SHT-PROL) continues her domination of the court in doubles with partner Sania Mirza, winning their seventh title together at the Dongfeng Motor Wuhan Open.

After a first-round bye, the duo got off to a running start, winning their first two matches in one day after cancellations due to weather the day before. They met up with Chan Yung-Jan and Chan Hao-Ching in the semifinal, expertly overtaking the sisters in seven minutes short of an hour. The duo broke the Chinese pair in the opening game after a 15-shot rally, harnessing the momentum from there. The pair saved all three break points faced en route to an overwhelming 6-2, 6-1 victory.

Martina and her partner faced Irina-Camelia Begu and Monica Niculescu in the final, prevailing despite a few close-calls. The World No. 1 pair broke their opponents six times, recording a 6-2, 6-3 win to earn the title. The pair has won three titles in a row since the US Open, and also their last 13 matches—without dropping a set. Martina now has her eyes set on the China Open, and another title.

Meanwhile in Uzbekistan, Japanese rising star Nao Hibino (VCORE Si 100, POLYTOUR SPIN, SHT-PROL) won her very first WTA title at the Tashkent Open, becoming only the tenth Japanese player to win a WTA title. Playing in the main draw of a WTA event for just her second time, the 20 year old made it through all of her matches without dropping a single set. She faced fellow VCORE Si player Donna Vekic (VCORE Si 100) in the final, prevailing at 6-2, 6-2, saving all break points faced. Donna made her way to the final defeating German No. 2 seed Carina Witthoeft en route.
