Great Prospects for YONEX Players Preceding US Open

The long-awaited Grand Slam of the year—the US Open is finally here. Men’s and women’s seeds have been announced, and among them stand some of YONEX’s best players. They will make their way to the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center’s hard courts next Monday, August 25th.

On the men’s side, Stan Wawrinka (VCORE Tour G,SHT-PRO) is seeded at number three. Opening this year with his first Grand Slam victory on the Australian Open’s hard courts, we are eager to see if he can achieve another hard court win at the US Open. Stan made it to the quarterfinals in 2010, as well as the semifinals last year, and placed in the quarterfinals in the recent Western & Southern Open.

Among the seeded female players, Angelique Kerber (VCORE Xi 100) is seeded at number six. Ranked at world 92 at the time, she made it to the semifinals at the US Open in 2011. Un-seeded Angie defeated seeded Flavia Pennetta in the quarterfinal, now ranking her at world 34 after the tournament. Recently she was a finalist in the hard court tournament at the Bank of the West Classic.

Ana Ivanovic (EZONE Ai 98) is seeded at number eight, and was a finalist at the Western & Southern Open. She defeated Maria Sharapova in a dramatic semifinal match, with her persistent and aggressive performance, bringing her world ranking back up into the top ten. Now riding on this great momentum leading into this year’s US Open Ana is determined to win and overcome her 2012 disappointment of only placing in the quarterfinals. Sabine Lisicki (VCORE Tour 97, POLYTOUR SPIN) is the number 26 seed, and recently became the fastest-serving female tennis player in the world. We’re looking forward to “Boom Boom” Lisicki unleashing her signature power shots at this year’s US Open once again.

Several of YONEX’s players are in a strong position to take on this year’s US Open, so be sure to support them every step of the way!
