Into the Semifinals
Stan Wawrinka (VCORE Duel G 97, POWER CUSHION ECLIPSION) is into his third semifinal at the Australian Open after a powerful 7-6(2), 6-4, 6-3 straight win over Jo-Wilfried Tsonga. After a neck-and-neck first set, the resulting tiebreaker would see Stan the Man confidently prevail with explosive winners by way of his VCORE Duel G. Stan would maintain momentum and confidence throughout the final two sets, gradually whittling down his opponent with three break points and saving five.
CoCo Vandeweghe’s (EZONE DR 98) advance continues with another upset. The women’s singles quarterfinal would see the American upset No. 7 seed Garbine Muguruza, 6-4, 6-0. Power was the name of the game, and the EZONE DR-wielding CoCo piled it on heavy against the Spaniard. Her breakthrough came in the seventh game of the opening set, where CoCo broke her opponent after a grueling 10 minutes. She would proceed to serve the Spaniard a bagel in the second set, advancing to her very first Grand Slam semifinal.
Doubles Dominance
No. 1 women’s doubles seeds Caroline Garcia (VCORE SV 100, Yonex String) and compatriot Kristina Mladenovic are into the quarterfinal after a straight 6-1, 6-4 win over Katarina Srebotnik and Saisai Zheng. The French pair sealed the opening set with a resounding ace, and kept aggressive against their opponents to get the edge in the second set.
