Australian Open 2016: Angelique Kerber into First Australian Open Semifinal

Angelique Kerber (VCORE Si 100, POLYTOUR FIRE 120) incredible run through this year’s Australian Open is still going at full steam, with the heavy-hitting German taking down former World No. 1 Victoria Azarenka impressively in straight sets.

Angie appeared on court firing her most powerful weapons right out of the gate, breaking her opponent in the opening game, moving on to earn a 4-0 lead in the blink of an eye. While her opponent managed to secure a few games, the World No. 6 seized the first set by a healthy margin while fending off four break points.

It looked as if the tables were turned in the second set with Angelique down 5-2, 40-0 against her in-form opponent, but the drive and determination that  characterized her opening assault came rushing back. Keeping her aggression high, the German saved five set points to earn her first victory over the Belarusian as well as advance to her first Australian Open semifinal with a final score of 6-3, 7-5. A giant smile immediately formed on Angie’s face when her opponent sent the ball straight into the net on the German’s match point.

Doubles dream team of Martina Hingis (EZONE DR 100, POLYTOUR PRO 125, POWER CUSHION ECLIPSION L)and Sania Mirza have secured their spot in the Australian Open women’s doubles semifinal after a tense quarterfinal encounter with CoCo Vandeweghe (EZONE DR 98) and Anna-Lena Groenefeld. Despite facing strong resistance, with their 34th consecutive win in clear view, Martina and Sania advanced to the semifinals with a final score of 6-2, 4-6, 6-1.

"I've switched my strings to all poly recently which has helped me gain more spin and control.  With the new setup I can swing through the ball faster which gives me the extra spin and control I was looking for. My shots have more power without flying too much," commented Martina after her match.

In the junior draws Ukrainian Dayana Yastremska (EZONE DR 100POLYTOUR PRO 125/POLYTOUR SPIN) is making strong progress in singles and doubles. The 15 year old made it through to the third singles round against Chinese Zhanlan Wei in straight sets at 6-4, 7-6(1), continuing on into the quarterfinals with a  6-3, 6-3 win against Violet Apisah. Paired with fellow Ukrainian Anastasia Zarytska in doubles, they defeated the local pair of Alexandra Bozovic and Kaylah McPhee in straight sets at 6-3, 6-3, breaking their opponents 4 times.
