Men’s doubles was stage to an all-French quarterfinal, with Pierre-Hugues Herbert (VCORE Tour G, YONEX String) and his partner Nicolas Mahut coming out victorious against fellow countrymen and No. 2 seeds Julien Benneteau and Edouard Roger-Vasselin. The un-seeded pair had the pressure come down heavy on them immediately, with the first set lasting nearly an hour and extending into a tiebreaker. Pierre and Nicolas won the tiebreaker, but the match see-sawed from there. Julien and Edouard proceeded to take set 2, followed by Pierre and Nicolas coming back for a strong win in the decider. The French pair managed to earn ten aces over their opponents’ two, and landed an astounding 50 winners. The match ended at 7-6(5), 3-6, 6-3. The two are set to meet No. 4 seeds Ivan Dodig and Marcelo Melo in the semifinal.
The 14th-seeded Chinese-Taiwanese pair of Zheng Jie (EZONE Ai 98, POLYTOUR SPIN) and Yung-Jan Chan dominated against the Polish-Slovakian pair of Klaudia Jans-Ignacik and Andreja Klepac. While their opponents had made it through some seeded adversaries, their winning streak came to a stop at Zheng and her partner. Running at just over an hour, the Asian pair summarily dispatched their opponents with 24 winners, and broke them six times for a straight-sets 6-1, 6-2 victory. They meet No. 13 seeds Michaella Krajicek and B.Zahlavova Strycova in the semifinal.
Pierre is into the semifinals backed up by his VCORE Tour G, while Zheng is making great progress with her EZONE Ai 98. These racquets continue to be match-winners, with the VCORE Tour G granting hard-hitters the best in control and spin, while EZONE Ai offers the best in speed with its unique weight balance. Be sure to tune in today when Stan Wawrinka (VCORE Tour G, SHT-PRO) enters the quarterfinals armed with his VCORE Tour G against Kei Nishikori in a repeat of last year’s US Open quarterfinal.
