Angelique Kerber (VCORE Si 100) made the biggest splash over the weekend, exhibiting an impressive run to the trophy. After being tested in a tight opening match, the world No. 14 cruised to the final with a series of straight-set victories. The German met No. 3 seed and defending champion Andrea Petkovic in the semifinal, being lead early on only to come back to seal the match confidently at 6-4, 6-4. The final put Angelique against American Madison Keys; the German demonstrating skillful defense and offence as she tenaciously deflected potent shots and landed solid points. Moving into a decider after the American took the second game, Angie found herself with a 4-1 deficit in the final set. However, Angie magnificently climbed back up to 5-5, fending off four game points to seize a 6-5 lead. As the American started to rack up errors, it was Angelique who won the final game at love. As her opponent hit the ball out, Angelique fell to the ground in joy, the match closing at 6-2, 4-6, 7-5. This marks Angelique’s first victory since 2013, her second WTA title at the Premier level, and her fourth WTA title in total.
Martina Hingis (EZONE Ai 100, POLYTOUR PRO 125, SHT-PROL) continues with her winning streak, winning the doubles title at the tournament. Her and partner Sania Mirza remain undefeated since pairing up, grabbing this victory in straight sets, 6-0, 6-4, over Casey Dellacqua and Darija Jurak.
