Yonex-Sunrise India Open 2017: Huge All-Yonex Showdowns

The Yonex-Sunrise India Open came to a close on April 2nd, 2017 with Yonex players dominating across four disciplines.


All DUORA Final


Men’s singles proved stage to an all-DUORA showdown between Viktor Axelsen (DUORA Z-STRIKEPOWER CUSHION 65) and Chou Tien Chen (DUORA 10POWER CUSHION 65 WIDE). The towering Dane was dominant in the final match, rushing to a 21-13, 21-10 win in just over 30 minutes. Demonstrating excellent performance with the DUORA Z-STRIKE, the Dane boasted huge smashes and keen netplay in the final match.

Tien Chen had a strong run at the tournament, blazing through all of his matches until the final in straight games.

Big Win for the Home Team


The women’s singles final saw Pusarla V. Sindhu (VOLTRIC Z-FORCE II, Yonex Shoes) pull off a strong hometown win against Carolina Marin (DUORA Z-STRIKEPOWER CUSHION AERUS 2 LADIES). Pusarla turned around the opening game backed by the fervent cheers of the local crowd, and rushed to victory in game 2 without once losing the lead. She would win her first India Open title with a final score of 21-19 21-16.

This tournament saw Carolina start competing with the DUORA Z-STRIKE, making it through to the final in strong form.

Team Yonex Doubles Face-offs


Men’s doubles put Yonex All England Open champions Marcus Fernaldi Gideon (VOLTRIC 70 E-tunePOWER CUSHION 65) and Kevin Sanjaya Sukamuljo (ARCSABER 11POWER CUSHION AERUS 2 MENS) against fellow countrymen Ricky Karanda Suwardi (NANORAY 900POWER CUSHION AERUS 2 MENS) and Angga Pratama (DUORA 10POWER CUSHION 03 Z MEN). The two would follow up their huge win in Birmingham by seizing their second straight India Open title, winning the final match with a score of 21-11 21-15. It is their second straight win this season after signing on with Yonex.

Shiho Tanaka (VOLTRIC 70 E-tunePOWER CUSHION 65) and Koharu Yonemoto (NANORAY 900, Yonex Shoes) came out victorious in an all-Japan women’s doubles final against Naoko Fukuman (DUORA 6, Yonex Shoes) and Kurumi Yonao (ARCSABER 11, Yonex Shoes). The pair came back from a game down to win their first Superseries title in their first Superseries final with a score of 16-21 21-19 21-10.
