Yonex-Sunrise Hong Kong Open: Team Yonex Triumphs in Final Superseries of 2016

Closing of the 2016 Superseries circuit, the Yonex-Sunrise Hong Kong Open concluded on November 27th with Team Yonex triumphing in men’s singles, men’s doubles, and women’s doubles. Women’s singles and mixed doubles also saw Yonex players make strong runs to the finals in those disciplines.

A Historic Win for Hong Kong

Ng Ka Long Angus (DUORA 10POWER CUSHION COMFORT TOUR) made history in his homeland, winning Hong Kong’s first ever men’s singles title at the Yonex-Sunrise Hong Kong Open. Blasting through the second round to the semifinal in straight games, Angus stepped on the court against Indian Sameer Verma (NANOSPEED 9900) in the final. Backed to the fervent cheers of local fans, the 22 year old smashed his way to a 21-14 first-game win, which saw him maintain a consistent lead after an early 1-1 tie. Despite dropping game 2, Angus took charge in the decider. Holding an unbroken lead, Angus scored the winning point with a sublime return by way of his DUORA 10. The final score came to 21-14 10-21 21-11.

“This title means so much to me, because this is the first for Hong Kong,” exclaimed an enthusiastic Angus in a comment on the official BWF website.

Denmark Dominates

Kamilla Rytter Juhl (DUORA 10, POWER CUSHION 65) and Christinna Pedersen (DUORA 7POWER CUSHION 02 LTD) won their second Superseries title of the year, defeating the Chinese pair of Li Yinhui and Huang Dongping in straight games. The Danes took control in game 2, with Kamilla claiming the winning point, sending the shuttle neatly into the back corner of their opponents’ court to earn a 21-19 21-10 victory.

Japanese Pair Earns first Superseries Title

Both games proved to be vicious exchanges of points, with the Japanese duo narrowly winning with a final score of 21-19 21-19.
