The first game saw Saina reach a solid 16-12 lead, but Carolina came rushing back to tie it up at 17-17, with the Spanish shuttler eventually winning at 21-19. The second game proved to be even more intense, with neither shuttler able to create a two-point lead after the game reached a 15-15 tie. While Carolina managed to stay ahead of Saina—and even took match point—Saina came back with ferocious tenacity, winning game 2 at 25-23. The decider shifted more towards Saina’s favor, maintaining the lead from 3-3. While Carolina attempted to catch up, it was Saina who won the title, 19-21, 25-23, 21-16.
Men’s singles saw fellow Indian shuttlers face off in the final. After a 18-21 22-20 21-7 win against 2014 BWF World Championships bronze medallist Viktor Axelsen (ARCSABER 11, SHB-87EX) in the semifinal, Kashyap Parupalli (ARCSABER 11, SHBSC2iEX) went up against China Open winner K. Srikanth. Both shuttlers boasted swift and agile movement about the court as they lead one another on, while striking with brutal attacks. The first game proved precarious for Kashyap, with Srikanth initially grabbing the game point. However, Kashyap persevered, taking game 1 at 23-21. The second game also proved intense, with Indian hopeful Srikanth once again grabbing game point. Kashyap’s determination proved rock solid regardless, catching up with his opponent once again to take the match with two consecutive points, ending with a resounding smash. The final score came to 23-21, 23-21.
Men’s doubles put two pairs of towering shuttlers head-to-head, with Mathias Boe (ARCSABER 11, SHBSC6iEX)/Carsten Mogensen (ARCSABER 11, SHB87LTD)meeting up with 2014 European Champions Vladimir Ivanov (VOLTRIC 80, SHB01LTD)/Ivan Sozonov (VOLTRIC 80, SHB87LTD). The Danes exhibited excellent control during rallies, taking game 1 at 21-9. The second game proved more of a challenge for the Danish pair, with the two Russians bringing the second game to a tie at 20-20. However, team ARCSABER came out on top in the end with a crushing smash, ending the match at 21-9, 23-21.
Women’s doubles was an all-Malaysian, all-NANORAY outing, with Anscelly Amelia Alicia (NANORAY 900, SHB87LTD)/Soong Fie Cho (NANORAY 700RP, SHB87LTD) and Hoo Vivian Kah Mun (NANORAY Z-SPEED, SHB87LTD)/Woon Khe Wei (NANORAY Z-SPEED, SHB87LTD) going against each other for the title. World No. 32 Anscelly Amelia Alicia/Soong Fie Cho defeated the Malaysia No. 1 pair and Commonwealth Games gold medallists at 22-20, 21-15, grabbing their first title.
