In men’s singles, local favorite and World No. 2 Jan O. Jorgensen (VOLTRIC 80 E-tune, SHBSC6iEX) made short work of Chinese Wang Zhengming in his first round match in a swift 37 minutes. A majority of the opening game seemed as if it would go in favor of the Chinese, but Jan steadily caught up to overtake his opponent. The Dane commanded the entirety of the second game, not losing the lead even once. He closed the match with a resounding smash, the final score coming to 21-17 21-9. Earlier in the day Viktor Axelsen (ARCSABER 11, SHB-87EX) got the edge over English shuttler Rajiv Ouseph (NANORAY 900, SHB-02MX). The Dane lead throughout both games, but the English shuttler remained hot on his tail. Viktor was persistent in hitting back much of what was thrown at him, and advanced to round 2 at 21-17 21-19 with a sharp return at the net.
Men’s doubles saw more local favorites advance, with Mathias Boe (DUORA 10, SHBSC6iEX) and Carsten Mogensen (DUORA 10, SHB87LTD) triumphing in a tight encounter with the Malaysian pair of Goh V Shem and Tan Wee Kiong. Up against match point, the pair rose from 18-20, grabbing four straight points to close the match at 21-15 19-21 22-20. Mathias claimed the winning point with a swift push, leaving the Malaysian team with no answers.
Women’s doubles pair Kamilla Rytter Juhl (NANORAY 900, SHB87LTD)/Christinna Pedersen(NANORAY 800, SHB-02LX) are into round 2 on their home turf as well, coming back from a game down to seal victory over China’s Huang Yaqiong and Tang Jinhua. After a neck-and-neck second game, the two managed to get the best over the Chinese in the final game, holding the lead right until the end, ferociously returning the Chinese’s pairs rapid-fire attacks. The final score came to 16-21 24-22 21-15.
Two-time World Champion Carolina Marin (NANORAY Z-SPEED, SHB-02LX) is into round 2, given little trouble from Chinese Sun Yu, winning at 21-10 21-15. Mixed doubles saw English pair Chris Adcock (VOLTRIC Z-FORCE Ⅱ, SHB-02MX)/Gabrielle Adcock (VOLTRIC Z-FORCE Ⅱ, SHB-02LX) also advance with a smooth victory over Ireland’s Sam and Chloe Magee at 21-14 21-11.
