At the 2013 season’s opening tournament, Korea Open Superseries Premier, world No. 1 Lee Chong Wei(VTZF) had a great start by defending the title.
In the semifinal, Chong Wei faced Wong Wing Ki(ARC10) from Hong Kong, who defeated Viktor Axelsen(VTZF) and Chong Wei Feng(VTZF) en route. Wing Ki won such two tough matches, however, Chong Wei overcame him with 13 smash winners and 11 net winners while Wing Ki made just 5 smash winners and 4 net winners. In the final, Chong Wei played against China’s Pengyu Du for the title. Swinging his VOLTRIC Z-FORCE, Chong Wei attacked with his massively speedy smash and accurate net shots which the opponent couldn’t catch enough. Chong Wei showed his mature technique and closed the match with 21-12, 21-15 in only 42 minutes.
World No. 1 Danish pair, Mathias Boe(VT80) and Carsten Mogensen(VTZFLTD) advanced into the men’s doubles final to face local Sung Hyun Ko and Yong Dae Lee. It was a repeat of the final of last year’s China Open and Mathias and Carsten won at that time. They became runners-up this time, although they showed aggressive attacking to earn 14 smash winners while the opponents made 9.
The next up is the Malaysia Open this week. Chong Wei aims for his 6th straight and 9th Malaysia Open title. Stay tuned!
