Sudirman Cup 2015: Chong Wei Maintains Strong Comeback; Germany Upsets Thailand

Day 2 of the Sudirman Cup saw Team YONEX shuttlers continue to excel on the court.



Malaysia faced India in Group D, with Lee Chong Wei (VOLTRIC Z-FORCE II LCWSHB01LTD) maintaining his remarkable return to the game. The former world No. 1 faced off against world No. 4 Srikanth Kidambi, claiming a 21-16 21-15 straight-games win in a swift 40 minutes. World No. 2 Saina Nehwal (NANORAY 900SHB-02LX) secured a win for her country, but it was Malaysia that sealed a 3-2 victory after a number of close encounters.

Group C put Indonesia head-to-head with England. World No. 3 doubles experts Mohammad Ahsan (NANORAY 900, SHB02LTD) and Hendra Setiawan (NANORAY 900, SHBF1NLTD) earned a win for their country by defeating  Andrew Ellis (VOLTRIC 70 E-tune) and Peter Mills in straight games at 21-17 21-15. While the mixed doubles couple of Chris Adcock (VOLTRIC Z-FORCE IISHB-02MX) and Gabrielle Adcock (VOLTRIC Z-FORCE IISHB-02LX) prevailed against four-time Yonex All England Champions Tontowi Ahmad and Liliyana Natsir, the Indonesian team came out on top at 3-2.

Chinese Taipei overwhelmed Russia in Group B with a 4-1 victory. Shuttlers Chou Tien Chen (VOLTRIC 70 E-tune, SHB02LTD) and  Tsai Chia Hsin (ARCSABER 11) dominated for the first time against Russian opponents.

Germany pulled off a dramatic victory against Thailand’s robust lineup of shuttlers. Marc Zwiebler (ARCSABER 11SHB-87EX) and mixed doubles pair Michael Fuchs (VOLTRIC 80, SHBSC6iEX)/Birgit Michels (NANORAY 700FX, SHBSC4LX) edged out strong victories in full-game matches.
