Young Indian star Sindhu P.V. (NR700RP) and Malaysian partners Hoon Thien How (VTZF)/Tan Wee Kiong (VTZF) won the Macau Open Grand Prix Gold on Sunday, December 1.
YONEX badminton player Sindhu, the No. 1 seed in the women’s singles, faced Michelle Li (AT900T) of Canada who just became the first North American player to reach the final Grand Prix Gold event. Sindhu had a tough match at the semifinals against China’s Qin Jinjing with 21-13 18-21 21-19, however, she stabilized her performance in the final, playing more consistently and reducing unforced errors. After a 38-minute match Sindhu took her second Grand Prix Gold title with a score of 21-15 21-12.
The runners-up at the China Open in November, Hoon/Tan were seeded as No. 2 in the men’s doubles. They played against No. 1 seed Lee Sheng Mu/Tsai Chia Hsin of Chinese Taipei in the final and won 21-16 21-19 to bag their first career title.
