Syed Modi International India Grand Prix Gold 2014 was held from January 21 to 26 in Lucknow, India. YONEX supported the event by providing equipment such as shuttlecocks and court mats. Local star Saina Nehwal (NR700RP) took home the title by defeating fellow Indian player P.V. Sindhu (NR700RP).
No. 1 seed, Saina had an excellent start to the first game with an 8-1 lead against No. 2 seed Sindhu, who won the bronze medal at the 2013 World Championships. After taking the first game 21-14, Saina successfully challenged Sindhu’s aggressive hitting giving her a 4-0 lead in the second game. Sindhu tried to maintain the momentum, however, Saina controlled the speed of the rally and won the match, 21-14 21-17. Saina took home a title for the first time in 15 months. Saina mentioned to make the comeback she endured serious training.
