Lee Chong Wei aims for another level

It’s Day 2 of YONEX OPEN JAPAN 2012 at Yoyogi Gymnasium in Tokyo, Japan.

No. 1 seed in the men’s singles, Lee Chong Wei (VTZFLTD) faced Viktor Axelsen (VTZF) in the second round. Against the Danish rising star, Chong Wei’s power and speed were enough to dominate the game, however, he has been still improving his technique skill to confuse the opponent. He knows what is important for the rally point.

Throughout the match, Chong Wei earned 39 winners, including smash, net and clear, while Viktor made just 19. The final score was 21-10, 21-12.

Chong Wei will face the same Malaysian Chong Wei Feng (VT80) in the quarterfinals tomorrow.

Taufik Hidayat (ARC10) commented that he wanted to show his best performance in front of Japanese people after winning the first round yesterday. Japanese fans are precious for him and he has been grateful to them for the warm support. Since he has such an admirable attitude, he came to Japan to hold charity matches for the victims of the Tohoku Earthquake last year.

Taufik defeated Japan’s Akira Koga by 21-11 21-10 in 27 minutes and he positively commented for the next round against fellow Indonesian Simon Santoso (AT900P). “The stronger player will win on the court.”
