It's the fourth day of the Thomas & Uber Cup Finals on Wednesday, May 23rd. Both in the Thomas Cup and the Uber Cup, Japan won tough meetings against Indonesia.
In the first match, Simon Santoso(AT900-P) defeated Sho Sasaki. Especially in the second set, Santoso showed great performance by earning smash winners which were seven more times than Sasaki did. In the other singles, Kenichi Tago(ARC-ZS) defeated Taufik Hidayat(ARC10) in straight sets. Then, in the doubles, Mohammad Ahsan(NS9900) and Alvent Yulianto Chandra(NR700RP) won by a big margin against Hiroyuki Endo(VTZF) and Kenichi Hayakawa to earn 19 smash winners which were about twice as much as Japanese pair. Finally, Takuma Ueda(ARC10) decisively defeated Dionysius Hayom Rumbaka(ARC10) by 21-14, 21-19, and Japan moved into the semifinals.
In the other quarterfinals, led by Peter Gade(VT80), Denmark achieved an overwhelming victory against Russia.
In the Uber Cup, Japan pulled off a victory against Indonesia. In the singles, Sayaka Sato(VT80) won decisively against Maria Febe Kusumastuti(NS7000) by 21-14, 21-10, and Minatsu Mitani(ARC9FL) also won a difficult match against Lindaweni Fanetri by 19-21, 21-13, 21-17. In the doubles, Mizuki Fujii(VT70) and Reika Kakiiwa(AT900T) was extremely hard. The opponent, Greysia Polii(VTZF) and Meiliana Jauhari(VT80) earned smash winners which were fourteen more times than Japanese pair did. But Fujii and Kakiiwa put up a spirited defense, finally they achieved a hard-won victory against Indonesian pair by 21-18, 15-21, 21-19.
Today, the semi-finals of the Uber Cup will be taken place. Japan will have a match against Korea which is the 2010 Uber Cup winner, and Thailand will face off against China.
