Jan O. Jorgensen and Carolina Marin Voted 2014 European Players of the Year

In an announcement made in Paris on April 18th, Jan O. Jorgensen (VOLTRIC 80 E-tune, SHBSC6iEX) and Carolina Marin (NANORAY Z-SPEEDSHB-02LX) were selected as the 2014 male and female players of the year in Badminton Europe’s Best European Player Awards, decided via online votes from fans. Both Jan and Carolina amazed spectators across the globe last year, and continue to do so in 2015.

Jan boasted an impressive record in 2014, seizing the Indonesia Superseries Premier title entirely with straight-game victories, as well as earning the European Championships gold medal. Along with these wins, the Dane also placed highly at several major tournaments throughout the year. His performance on the court this year continues to turn heads, winning at the recent YONEX German Open without dropping a single game, and exhibiting a spectacular run to the final at the YONEX All England Open the following week.

Carolina stands proud among badminton’s many up-and-coming stars, with a number of historical achievements to her name at just the age of 21. She became the first Spanish player to win the European Championships gold medal, proceeding to also become the first to win the gold at the World Championships, where she defeated then-world No. 1 Li Xuerui in an intense three-game final match. She already has two Superseries Premier titles under belt this year, earning wins at the YONEX All England and Malaysia Open.

Both ranked at No. 2* in the world, these two giants of European badminton are giving strong Asian shuttlers who have dominated the sport for so long a run for their money. Expect more from these accomplished shuttlers as they continue to shake up the world of badminton.

*Rankings current as of April 16th, 2015
