Goh & Lim Become the Runners-up at Malaysia GPG

Malaysian doubles pair Goh V Shem (ARC11) and Lim Khim Wah (VTZF,SHB87LTD) became the runners-up at the YONEX-SUNRISE Malaysia Grand Prix Gold on Sunday, March 30, 2014.

The Malaysian duo had a great start to the year when they won one of the Super series events at the Malaysia Open in January. Their consistent form has paved the way to make it into the final of the Grand Prix Gold tournament.

The semifinal was a very tough match against Indonesian pair, Gideon Markus Fernaldi and Markis Kido. Goh and Lim lost the first game against the 2013 Yonex French Open winners,18-21. Fernaldi and Kido also led the beginning of the second game 3-0, however, Goh and Lim played tenaciously to even the game and eventually won the second match, 21-18.

At the beginning of the decider, Goh and Lim had to play vigorously, but they blocked Fernaldi and Kido preventing any leads from 8-all. Goh sharply controlled the rally and Lim attacked with a powerful smash. Finally, they finished the match with a quick pushing shot, 18-21 21-18 21-17. Goh and Lim gave an awesome performance in front of their home crowd, but they became runners-up after losing to Danny Bawa Chrisnanta and Chayut Triyachart.

India’s Sourabh Varma (NR700RP), the 2011 Indian National Badminton Champion, also became the runner-up in the men’s singles event.
