ODENSE, Denmark – After 7 months without professional badminton, #TeamYonex stepped their first foot back onto the competition courts at the DANISA Denmark Open 2020. Yuki Fukushima (JPN) and Sayaka Hirota (JPN) rose triumphant in women’s doubles, Marcus Ellis (ENG) and his partner Chris Langridge (ENG) took gold in men’s doubles, and Mark Lamsfuss (GER) and Isabel Herttrich (GER) dominated mixed doubles.
Yuki Fukushima and Sayaka Hirota faced compatriots, Mayu Matsumoto (JPN) and Wakana Nagahara (JPN) for the title in women’s doubles. Fukushima and Hirota started strong in the first game but let their guard down in the second game guiding the match into a 3-gamer. The 2020 All England champions showed their recent successes were no fluke by edging out Matsumoto and Nagahara in the third game with a final score of 21-10, 16-21, 21-18.
In mixed doubles, Mark Lamsfuss and Isabel Herttrich were matched up against the 2018 European Champion pair, Chris Adcock (ENG) and Gabrielle Adcock (ENG) for the ultimate victory. Lamsfuss and Herttrich dropped the first game but displayed great focus in the following games to win with a final score of 18-21, 21-11, 21-14.
In a thrilling match against Vladamir Ivanov (RUS) and Ivan Sozonov (RUS), Marcus Ellis and Chris Langridge fought for every point. Dropping the first game, the English pair pushed harder to control the next two games resulting in the final scores of 20-22, 21-17, 21-18.
