Danish Shuttlers Prevail at YONEX German Open 2015

Team YONEXs Danish shuttlers continue to dominate in Europe. After earning impressive victories for their country at the European Mixed Team Championships, Danish players came out with stunning results at this year’s YONEX German Open, which concluded on March 1st.

World No. 2 Jan O. Jorgensen (VOLTRIC 80 E-tune, SHBSC6iEX) powered through the competition in men’s singles, making it known to his opponents and the spectators why he was seeded at No. 1. Jan didn’t lose a single game on his way to the trophy, facing the most trouble against Chinese Taipei’s Tzu Wei Wang in a match which concluded at a close 21-19 21-19 scoreline. His final match placed him against Dionysius Hayom Rumbaka, which he won in a swift 31 minutes at 21-12 21-13.

Carolina Marin (NANORAY Z-SPEED, SHBF1NLTD) was a force to be reckoned with in women’s singles, winning all of her matches until the final in straight sets. Her semifinal match placed the Spaniard against defending champion Sayaka Takahashi. No. 2 seed Carolina commanded the lead for the entirety of the first game, and remained ahead in game 2 after tying the Japanese shuttler 4-4. The final score came to 21-16 21-12. She met No. 1 seed Ji Hyun Sung in a see-saw final match that extended into a third game, placing as the finalist in the end.

The Danish reign continued in all the doubles categories, with Mads Pieler Kolding (ARCSABER 11SHB-87EX)/Mads Conrad-Petersen coming out victorious after an intense meeting with 2014 European Champions Vladimir Ivanov (VOLTRIC 80SHB01LTD)/Ivan Sozonov (VOLTRIC 80SHB87LTD) in men’s doubles, ending at 22-20, 21-19. Kamilla Rytter Juhl (NANORAY 900)/Christinna Pedersen (NANORAY 800SHB-01LX) also put up a hard fight against Della Destiara Haris/Rosyita Eka Putri Sari in women’s doubles, which closed at 21-18, 17-21, 21-9 in just short of one hour.

The female doubles pair went face-to-face in mixed doubles, the pair of Mads/Kamilla winning over Christinna/Joachim Fischer Nielsen, 21-18, 21-17.

These players, and many other skilled members of Team YONEX, are set to compete in the YONEX All England Badminton Championships, which gets underway, March 3rd. Keep your eyes on yonexusa.com for updates on the most prestigious badminton tournament right as it happens.
