A lively and raucous crowd generated yet another electrifying atmosphere on day 4 of the YONEX All England. Fans from around the world descended upon the National Indoor Arena and were treated to some exceptional badminton.
Lee Chong Wei (VTZF) was at his consummate best as he dispatched 8th seed Tien Minh Nguyen 21-17, 21-19. Chong Wei’s net play oozed class throughout the match as he wowed the many fans in attendance. His control was effortless and he goes into tomorrow’s Semi Final against Tanongsak Saensomboonsuk in great form.
Saina Nehwal (NR700RP) showed exceptional grit and determination to overcome 6th seed Shixian Wang and make it into Saturday’s Semi Finals. Saina was forced to dig deep by the former All England Champion, eventually winning 23-21, 19-21, 21-16 to the delight of the Indian fans.
Teenage sensation Ratchanok Inthanon (ARC10) stunned 4th seed Juliene Schenk to set up an all YONEX Semi Final against Saina Nehwal. Ratchanok fought back from a game down to win 13-21, 21-12, 21-8 in 52 minutes. A truly amazing achievement for the 3 times World Junior Champion.
Indonesia’s Muhammad Rijal (AT900P) and Debby Susanto caused a major upset in defeating top seeds Chen Xu and Jin Ma in the Mixed Doubles. The duo’s aggressive play forced the Chinese pair into making a number of unforced errors, which saw them end up victorious winning 16-21 21-13 21-18.
